Are you telling me that our entire agricultural infrastructure was predicated on the exploitation of foreign-born workers who were forced to live in inhumane living conditions and paid next to nothing? And that now that this presidency has created an extremely hostile environment that those immigrants are going elsewhere? Causing a shortage of cheap exploitable labor? Kenneka Jenkins was found dead inside of a walk-in freezer on Sunday morning, September 10th. The most heartbreaking part of it all is that the narrative of her death has been tainted by uninformed Twitter detectives. A woman who is as much as a real investigator as this emoji, 🕵🏽♀️, took to Twitter to dish out exclusive information that she had about the death of Jenkins. “Information” that revealed Jenkins was alleged sold by her friends to be raped, murdered, and then hidden away. A video went viral on Facebook of the supposed party that Jenkins attended. Which many viewers went on to create their own theory of the contents within the video. Even my dumbass watched the video several times in an attempt to gain my own conclusion. But after several watches, I said “fuck it” and googled Kenneka Jenkins’ name. I was shocked to see so many articles using Twitter and Facebook as their sources for information on Jenkins’ death. Then I read a LEGIT article by the Chicago Tribune - in which they listed all of the missing information of the night Jenkins went missing into her eventual death.
One, the time she was spotted on survelliance cameras walking, in what cops deemed as, drunk towards the front desk was 3:20AM - which discredits everybody’s dumbass assumption that she died around 12/1AM.
Two, 1:30AM is Jenkins spoke with her sister, once again discrediting anyone that assumed she was dead at 12/1AM.
Three, the supposed Facebook video of the party Jenkins attended was posted at 1:36AM. Once again discrediting any theory of her dying. This time is also odd since Jenkins is either on the phone with her sister or just got off the phone. Assuming that she was still on the phone with her sister, how does the rumor of her being raped and then “choked” to death happen?
Four, her mother Ms. Tereasa Martin (yes, my mother raised me to respect the very name of my elders) isn’t buying the stories of alleged attendees of the party. She believes their stories are too inconsistent to make sense. Which can be perceived as one of two things: either they are covering her death or they are kids that cannot formulate a proper statement.
The Tribune goes on to list even more missing items for the timeline of Jenkins’ death which I greatly appreciated cause I, just like the rest of black Social Media world, was misinformed. And instead of picking up the paper to read the facts, I scrolled into a farse that’s been negated by THE FACTS! Which is why I HATE FUCKING SOCIAL MEDIA! We scroll over it and voila, it’s now reality. But this shit isn’t real. This shit is all perceived thoughts. The more likes, retweets, and shares the more credibile it becomes. WHAT IS REAL IS THAT KENNEKA JENKINS IS DEAD. And instead of the Twitterverse respecting her family and her life, we have gone to make a mockery of her life with our dark fantasy of her death.
IF (and only IF) these allegations towards the people in that hotel room on Friday night are true can we then praise our unlicensed skill to dissect a crime scene. But until THEN, please shut the fuck up and allow the investigation to take place. That way we can have the proper conversations of the circumstances surrounding her death. Because of the traction Jenkins’ and the rumored story behind it people have gone to attack innocent people (mainly, a suicidal young woman who posted a video on Facebook that had nothing to do with Jenkins’ death).
With all that being said, Rest In Peace Kenneka Jenkins - your death is untimely and unfortunate and my condolences are with your family at this time of heartbreak.
